The Cleveland Council on World Affairs offers a variety of internships during the fall, spring, and summer. An internship lasts 3-4 months providing students with practical experience working at a nonprofit organization.

All internship positions are unpaid. Interns work on one or more of the above areas. A committment of 12-15 hours per week is requested.
Internship Benefits
Interning at the CCWA will give you the opportunity to gain experience in a professional environment with work that focuses on global issues. You may acquire experience with project management, nonprofit operations, and international exchange. You also have significant opportunities to establish contact with leaders in the Cleveland community who can prove helpful for your own career search.Many of our past interns pursue careers at the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Department of Commerce or in International Law.
What Interns Can Expect from the Council
- Opportunities to complete projects that can be used in a work portfolio or for credit; mentoring and supervision in order to achieve your goals
- Involvement in all events (the U.S. State Department-sponsored International Visitor Program and CCWA-sponsored events including the Major Lecture Series, business symposia, Young Professionals, Model UN Conferences, teacher workshops, etc.
- International Leadership Seminars where selected members of the Board of Trustees will meet informally with CCWA interns to share their professional experiences and expose interns to a wide range of international careers
- Experience of day-to-day operations in a small, nonprofit organization involved in promoting international understanding in Northeast Ohio
- Exposure to international visitors who are participating in short-term and long-term U.S. Department of State-sponsored programs
- Intern presentation at the end of the internship period, to summarize your projects and learning experiences
What the Council Expects from Interns
- Commitment to the mission of the Cleveland Council on World Affairs
- Development of goals for the internship and the desire to find ways to meet these goals
- Knowledge about the projects they are working on and general Council activities
- Attention to detail in the intern's work; documentation and updates on work efforts so that other interns and staff may continue work on the projects
- Attendance at programs during the internship period
- Attendance at meetings appropriate to the intern's projects (as necessary)
