The Cleveland Council on World Affairs is pleased to welcome two new colleagues to our team. Amy Moniot has accepted the role of Manager of Programming, and Veronica Ruhe is CCWA’s new Program Associate for Student Programs. They both assumed their new positions on October 4, 2021. “We are delighted to welcome Amy and Veronica to the CCWA team, and are excited about the energy, experience and commitment to our mission that our new colleagues bring to CCWA,” says Carina Van Vliet, CCWA’s Chief Executive Officer.
Amy Moniot serves as CCWA’s Manager of Programming, and in this role she oversees the organization’s speaker forums, including the Foreign Policy Forum series and Cleveland Committee on Foreign Relations, and other programming. Amy has well over ten years of experience in international education programming. She was selected by the State Department in 2019 as an English Fellow in Myanmar. Amy has also lived and worked in Mexico, Thailand, and Georgia, where she was a Peace Corps Volunteer. A long-time CCWA Citizen Diplomat, Amy believes we all have contributions to make toward international understanding. “As someone who has been welcomed into the homes, communities and workplaces of colleagues all over the world, I have seen firsthand how international affairs affect real people in their everyday lives. Many times, the effects of global political decisions lead to a better quality of life in other countries, and often these decisions have the opposite effect. My hope is that our work will continue to serve an informed and caring community leading to positive effects for the global community. I am thrilled to be inspiring my hometown in international engagement!,” says Amy.
Veronica Ruhe serves as Program Associate for Student Programs. She will be responsible for ensuring the success of our Model UN program, building participation in our annual Academic WorldQuest competition, and engaging students in Junior World Affairs Councils (JWAC) in local middle and high schools. Veronica was President of the Model NATO team at Kent State University, and she just returned home to Cleveland with a Masters’ Degree from the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies. “I am excited to use my education and experiences to contribute to CCWA’s mission and projects. I am also excited to meet new people and expand my own knowledge, skills, and global competency. I am honored to continue CCWA’s legacy with Model UN, as well as expanding the JWAC program. I hope to give students opportunities to lay the educational foundation for their own international studies, and spark their interest in world affairs,” says Veronica.
Please join us in giving our new colleagues a warm welcome to the CCWA family. You may reach Amy at amoniot@ccwa.org and Veronica at vruhe@ccwa.org.
